Space Update is an interactive, real-time display system of space science images and data. The program displays hundreds of images and movies of the best of space science research, with web links to find out more information. You can update the software to show "today's data" by downloading the latest images free from the internet to keep your software up-to-date. Each of the submodules, can run separately, resulting in 5 separate kiosks if desired. Full-screen versions without support files, are available for download but require a registration number after a 30-day demo period.

Update the software to truly show "today's data" by downloading today's images free from the internet to keep your software up-to-date, even if it is in use! This powerful software suite is available for purchase as a single DVD which includes both Mac and Windows versions.

Astronomy Update

This module brings you the best of space and ground-based astronomical images of stars, nebulae, clusters, & galaxies, including the latest images from the Hubble Space Telescope and other observatories, all arranged by subject. It also includes images of the night sky in all available wavelengths (microwave background, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, X-ray and gamma ray), and numerous animations depicting events such as galaxy formation and supernovae. New items can be added remotely at any time to the external database. Select "Update Data" and download the latest data from within the application.

Full-screen version that blacks out the desktop (suitable for museums) is available to download but requires a purchased registration number after the 30-day demo period.

Features

Includes sections on...

  • Stars - birth and death, low mass, high mass, nebulae
  • Clusters - globular and open
  • Galaxies - spiral, elliptical, irregular, magellanic, groups, active
  • Deep Space - deep field images, explosions
  • All Sky - milky way galaxy in wavelengths ranging from radio to high enery gamma rays

The installed images, movies and data files can be updated from our servers using the 'Update Data' button. Outdated files are archived or deleted, and new astronomy topics that are continually being added to the online database can be downloaded.

Solar System Update

This module lets you explore the objects of the solar system including the planets and all their moons. recent results from planetary missions (e.g. from Cassini at Saturn), and planetary images from the Hubble Space Telescope. It also features physical data on the planets and their moons, in both scientific units and "Earth units", and basic facts about past and current satellite exploratory missions. Data is organized by planetary body and grouped by media-type for movies and images, both 2D and 3D! Each file contains links to more info available on the internet.

Select "Update Data" and download the latest data without leaving the application.

Solar System Update runs as part of Space Update or as a stand-alone application. A full-screen version that blacks out the desktop (suitable for museums) is available to download but requires a purchased registration number after the 30-day demo period.

Features

  • physical data for the planets and their moons, comets, asteroids, and deep space objects
  • images and movies for each planetary object
  • latest results are easily located under NEW
  • data and images on satellite missions
  • external internet links for all files to allow further exploration
  • control animations frame by frame

Space Weather

This module answers questions about what space weather is and what it does in space and here on Earth. It includes movies and images of the aurora, including today's aurora from space; images and movies of the Sun in various wavelengths from the ground and from orbiting NASA spacecraft; a tutorial about what space weather is and how the aurora is formed; and much more! You'll also find real-time space weather conditions from current satellite missions - see our award-winning Space Weather hotlist for our source sites!
