Impact Earth is a planetarium show that teaches about meteors, meteorites, asteroids, and comets. It includes results from recent NASA missions and about the dangers they can pose to life on Earth. It is created for fulldome theaters but is also available on DVD to be shown in flat version for TVs and computer monitors. It shows dramatically the effects of the Chixulub and Tungusta events, plus the Pallasite impact that resulted in the Brenham meteorite fall, and describes ways that asteroid hunters seek new objects in the solar system, and how ground penetrating radar is used to find meteorites that have survived to the Earth's surface. Narrated by astronaut Tom Jones, it also discusses ways that humans might try to deflect an asteroid or comet that is on a collision course with Earth. Created for informal science venues (digital planetariums), it is also useful as ancillary material for middle school science. Created under NASA Cooperative Agreement NCC5-316 to Rice University in conjunction with the Houston Museum of Natural Science as part of the "Immersive Earth" project, part of the REASoN program. |

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to explore the eye, navigate through the brain or hang on as blood surges past you from the heart's valves, this fantastic voyage for you. You'll travel through a cell, into the nucleus, and watch as a virus attacks. In Microcosm an armada of nanoshells, displayed as yellow submarines, sets out in the blood stream, through the eye, ear and brain, in search of a deadly virus. The virus is found, a fierce battle wages over the Planetarium dome, and the patient is saved. Microcosm uses the latest discoveries of nanoscale science to create a voyage that is realistic and possible for inner space probes only a few nanometers wide. The experience is incredible, but so is the technology that has made imaging at this scale a reality. Audiences learn about using superconductors to measure magnetic fields outside the body and about deploying gold nanoshells to the sites of tumors or infections. This nanoshell science segment makes the HMNS version of this show different from the version from Evans & Sutherland. It's an adventure to 'inner space,' rather than outer space. Humans have experienced how far it is to the moon. And now, thanks to more Houston scientists, we can reach the genetic code inside our cells, a journey equal in scale to a trip to the moon at eight orders of magnitude. Microcosm is produced in conjunction with Evans & Sutherland Corporation with collaboration and support from the Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology, the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology, the Institute of Biosciences and Bioengineering at Rice University, and the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston. Contact Carolyn Sumners of HMNS for large dome licensing of this show. This show has been updated and is now available as THE BODY CODE. |

The sky, and everything that happens there, has always aroused the interest and curiosity of the human race. Eclipses, the regular cycle of the seasons, the motion of the stars… The ruins of Stonehenge and Machu Picchu bear witness to how these phenomena were studied with a view to predicting them. In the learned company of a cartoon Einstein, we’ll be revisiting the major astronomical milestones of the last 3000 years, from the cosmological models of antiquity, through the Ptolemaic system and the epicycles, to the contributions of Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Newton and Herschel, amongst others. We’ll also be reviewing the discoveries made possible by the use of technology, from the first telescope, designed by Galileo, to the modern ones in use both on earth and in space, which have revealed the wonderful objects contained in the cosmos to us: nebulae, pulsars, black holes… Only by looking back, and learning about sciences’ great triumphs in the past, can we hope to catch a glimpse of what its future findings might be. Meditating on the future of astronomy, all we can know for certain is that, happily, our curiosity will always be moving a few steps ahead of the reach of our telescopes. How did our solar system originate? What chain of events led to its creation? Just as detectives look for traces of evidence to solve a mystery, astronomers analyze the evidence that points to the formation of the Sun and planets. In particular, they study the influence that impacts and collisions had on the worlds of the solar system. The most dramatic evidence for this collisional history of solar system evolution are the impact craters found on almost all the bodies in the solar system, including Earth. These surface scars tell us the formation history of planets, moons, and rings was violent. Yet today, we live in a relatively stable solar system, made possible by the shattering collisions that shaped our worlds. This program gives us a unique look at the formation of the solar system by tracing the role that collisions played throughout its history. Beginning with the condensation of the initial cloud of gas and cosmic dust, we explore the history of planetary formation and the mechanism of accretion that played an important role in shaping the worlds of the solar system. A completely original Clark Planetarium production, Black Holes takes you on a journey through one of the most mystifying, awe-inspiring phenomena in the universe: a black hole. Where do they come from? Where do they go? How do we find them? Is there one on Earth's horizon? Using the latest in full-dome, 3D animation visualization technology. Narrated by actor John de Lancie ("Q" in the Star Trek : The Next Generation TV series), this space adventure features rich, expansive panoramas and incorporates several of the latest scientific theories about how black holes are formed and where they are hiding now. Witness the bending of light, the skewing of perception, and the dizzying descent into a black hole. This show incorporates some of the most visually stunning three-dimensional effects ever created for the planetarium. Add to that a sound effects track and 5.1 surround sound mix by George Lucas' Skywalker Sound Studios and you have an incredible sensory experience. Two versions to choose from: The full-length 37-minute program or a specially edited 23-minute version. Written by: Martin Ratcliffe and Mike Murray

MOLES's story revolves around a young mole named Plato. Plato lives deep underground in a dark burrow full of mystery and surprises together with his mum and dad. He is a restless, curious and thoughtful creature. Plato is fascinated by the light that penetrates the entrance to his home. Sometimes it is lit; sometimes it is off... Why could that be? Our young friend is desperate to see what is out there in the outside world and one day he finally gets to see it all! Plato discovers day and night, the sun and the moon, and the stars! Plato’s best friends are Alfa, Beta and Gamma with whom he loves to sing… and go treasure hunting! Good thing that the professor Socrates keeps an eye on our young friends… as sometimes things can get a little out of hand…! The story has been inspired by the Greek philosopher Plato's "Myth of the Cave". In this co-production of Antares FullDome Productions and Mediuscula, young children will be introduced to the fascinating world of astronomy in a fun, simple and very humorous way, hand in hand with the little mole. The animated characters and the attractive backdrops of this full dome entertainment show will keep the audience captivated. Produced by Antares Fulldome Productions. Join two children on a magical journey through the Solar System, aided by a talking astronomy book, a cardboard rocket, and a vivid imagination. The Clark Planetarium says....
The narration track has been edited to take into account the reclassification of Pluto. However, the voices were not renarrated so we made just a few changes to the actual recorded soundtrack. We removed all references to Pluto as the "ninth planet" or "smallest planet" or "last planet" but we still call it a "planet." Our feeling is that even though Pluto is now a "dwarf planet" it's still a planet. We recommend doing the program by having your Show Presenter making a few comments during the introductions to ask questions and explain what's going on with Pluto and why we still include it as a "planet." Then we follow up with some Q&A at the end. This approach has been working really well for us, and even helps to underscore the point. Show length: Two Versions Available: 40 and 30 minutes.
